There’s something atavistic about a green face on a witch on Halloween night. Last year I painted my face green for the trick or treaters, and when I opened the door, children recoiled. Some jumped backwards. Some screamed.
A green-faced witch offering candy is one step too close to gingerbread and an oven door, and by first grade, enough storybook fairytales had been absorbed that the children knew it.
(Hashtag don’t use kryolan color corrector as an all over face paint because your skin will crack up the next day like they’re the Bonneville salt flats.)
